Egg or sperm cell donation

All sperm or egg donation in Denmark MUST be anonymous – a condition – that cannot not be broken. All donated cells used in an EU certified clinic (we are) must be delivered from a EU certified laboratory.

Egg donation - recipients
We are sometimes able to accept recipients for egg donation. As donated egg cells are sparce, we cannot promise to accept recipients as we do not want our recipients to wait in vain.It may be an advantage to keep frozen sperm at the clinic as this may reduce the need for urgent visit at the clinic. Frozen sperm is mostly used for fertilisation with ICSI method.

How to be prepared for receiving eggs:

1. Down regulation is initiated one week prior to onset of menstrual period in order to control endogenous hormone production from the ovaries.
2. After debut of menstrual bleeding – estradiol treatment is initiated.
3. When endometrium reaches 7 mm you are ready to receive and may be that for several weeks.
4. At donor oocyte pick up – sperm cells are needed for fertilisation.
5. Some tiem later the same day – the recipient is informed about donated eggs.
6. If eggs are received the recipient starts treatment with progesterone along with the estradiol treatment.
7. At day 3 to 5 embryo transfer takes place.
8. 2 weeks later – blood test for pregnancy hormone is taken.
9. 3 weeks after verification of pregnancy ultrasonography is done to demonstrate an intrauterine pregnancy.
10. Hormonal replacement therapy is continued beyond week 10 of gestation.

Results
Since 1997 we have had egg donation programme and our results is close to 80 % pregnancy per transfer.

Egg donation – to become a donor.

It is very impressive that some of you women offer egg donation to others – this is by definition altruism at it's greatest. It is, however, according to EU legislation – not legal to compensate a woman donating eggs economically beyond what may be a reasonable loss due the egg donation. An egg donor – must be thoroughly tested for gynaecological, genetic and other diseases before eventual donation. Stimulation for an egg donor is mostly based at the short protocol see – scheme 4. If you want to be an egg donor – please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic.

Egg donation outside Denmark
Since 1999 we have been collaborating with a Spanish clinic in Valencia ; www.ivi.es. They have very promising results too and have been able to offer donation in greater amount than we have been able to. Other Scandinavian clinics have followed our lead and contacted IVI also for co work IVF with sperm donation. This offers no problems as we have sperm sample available in our cryo tanks. We use sperm cells from www.ncb.dk or from www.cryos.dk
