AMH = Anti Müllerian Hormone (also called MIS = Müllerian inhibiting Substance) is a hormone present in the follicular fluid. AMH takes part in the feed back regulation with the pituitary gland.
AMH is a new method for evaluation ovarian reserve – which off course is interested in the ovarian aging process. The Higher the AMH – the more follicles present!
AMH has some technical problems right now: Since it is such a new hormone to test - universal reference values have not been established. We are using these intervals as guidelines for interpretation of the results of analysis:
AMH may be used to determine PCO / PCOS – but ultrasonography is preferable. AMH is cycle independent and though easier to rely upon that measurements of FSH. However only few labs is carrying out AMH analysis.
FSH measurements only yields usable respond if Estradiol < 0,05 nmol /L
