AHA was introduced to Denmark by our clinic in 1996. In 2001 we almost stopped this detailed treatment again. In 1996 reports indicated improved pregnancy results by utilising AHA. As a consequence of these observations, we introduced the treatment to couples with previous failure IVF.
In the initial phase we got 13 pregnancies out of 20 cycles among women with a total of 105 previous failures cycles – this gave hope for a break through in believing in more efficient fertility treatment
However, AHA does not. In our clinic as well as in several large scale studies no overall improvement of IVF pregnancy rate can be seen. We have off course speculated why. New culture techniques – new culture media and improved knowledge of quality culturing have discharged the idea of IVF improvement by AHA. Also in the UK, fertility guidelines disapprove of using AHA now whether performed with acid or by laser technique.
Tyrodes-solution is added the Zona Pellucida.
